Fade Effect
This tutorial will show you how to make an image like this:

1. Find a suitable image, I am using this one:

2. Paste this above a vintage style pattern like this (i added a text brush for more effect):

3. To create the faded effect select the
bottom quarter of your orignal image. Go to Selections > Modify > Feather and set it to
100. Click ok. You will now see that your orignal selection has expanded slighty. Delete the selection several times and you will see it fade.
4. Now to complete the image create a new layer above this and fill it with this colour:

5. Set this to
exclusion and visibility to
70.
6. Now copy and paste your orignal image above this and set it to
overlay. Go back to the orignal image below and go to Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen. This will give the image a more ancient look.
7. You should now have this:

8. Now finally to add the scratches, paste this image several times on top in different positions and different rotations.

9. Set all these layers to
Lighten and you will now have this:
